The Olympic torch passing through Kensington, 26 July 2012
On 26 July, the Olympic torch passed Kensington on the last day before the opening of the London 2012 Olympics. The torch went in and out of the borough three times during the day, first from Chelsea Bridge and along the Kings Road before disappearing into Hammersmith & Fulham, then coming back in from Olympia along Kensington High Street and visiting the Holland Park Opera before disappearing into H&F again, and finally going along Holland Park Avenue and Notting Hill Gate, where four of the torchbearers were the founder of the All Stars Boxing & Youth Club in Harrow Road in 1974, Isola Akay, the steel king Lakshmi Mittal and his son Aditya Mittal, and a last minute addition in form of Prince Frederik, the crown prince of Denmark, who is a seasoned marathon runner.
The music accompanying the slide show is Beatles' old classic "Here Comes the Sun", which was very fitting that day.
